Will Rogers used to say, “If you don’t like the weather in Oklahoma, wait a minute and it’ll change.” I think all Oklahoman had heard this said one time or another. But it is so true about the unpredictability of weather in this great state of Oklahoma. Which made planning an event, like a wedding, months in advance a bit tricky.
Spring and Fall are really beautiful seasons in Oklahoma, lots of brides want to get married outdoors in these seasons, but the weather is also more fickle. To ensure your wedding can go smoothly regardless of the weather, it is really helpful to have a contingency plan.
There are lots of outdoor venues in Oklahoma that has facilities for a plan B, and your wedding can still be beautiful. Coles Garden, for example, has a beautiful chapel, just in case if the weather doesn’t cooperate with your plan of a garden wedding. There are brides who actually prefer to have their ceremony in the chapel, especially in the cruel heat of the Oklahoma summer. Sam Noble Museum in Norman is another example that has both beautiful indoor and outdoor ceremony options. Cherokee Spur Ranch is famous for their breathtaking vistas of the Grand Lake, but they also have a beautiful all wood pavilion to accommodate the ever changing Oklahoma weather.
But if you are getting marries out in a field where there are no other facility for the plan B, it is a good idea to go ahead and set your contingency plan. You will definitely need to pay extra close attention to the weather forecasts. The computer models are getting pretty good at predicting from 2-3 days out. It will allow you execute the contingency plan that you have already set in place. It could include a tent rental, or maybe move your ceremony to your reception venue.
By having a contingency plan set in advance, no matter what Oklahoma weather throws at you, you can remain calm knowing your wedding will still come together. And always remember, no matter what, at the end of the day, you and the love of your life will be married, and that’s the most important thing.
